Rebecca Cockram

Bec is the board’s Arts and Regional representative. She has worked with young people in the arts for around seven years now in a variety of contexts. Bec recently moved with her partner to Kununurra to resume her Media teaching practice at Kununurra Districst High School in the Kimberley.

Bec’s passion for this region stems from running the Out There regional Youth Arts Development Program with Country Arts WA. Out There is designed to increase the opportunity for young people in regional Western Australia to engage in a broad range of art forms within their own communities. The focus community was Yiyili Aboriginal Community in the Kimberley and The Walkabout Boys band was the result. Bec was also the grant officer for YCulture Regional.

Prior to joining Country Arts WA in 2006, Bec tour managed the Making Movies Roadshow Project for the Film and Television Institute which gave her the opportunity to visit young people in just about every region of WA to run filmmaking workshops in mainly very remote Indigenous Communities.

In partnership with Katanning Community, Bec directed a documentary called Mooditj Noongar Yorgas: The Story of the Katanning Wearable Art Fashion Show that was shown in New York in April 2007. She has also been a regular contributor to the Revelation Perth International Film Festival, having coordinated the Buy My Duck! Short Film competition and curated the Indigenous Short Film Showcase in 2007. Bec also curated the short film component of the Wululan Maya Cultural exhibition in Perth in 2008.
