Bec Massey

Facilitator/Professional Artist

Bec Massey is a Professional Artist/Community Cultural Development worker with over five years experience in her field. During this time she has primarily worked with LightnUp, a community arts organization based in Lismore, New South Wales. As a core team member of LightnUp, her roles have included facilitator, artist, organiser, performer, supervising and coordinating small groups, School Workshop Coordinator (06/07) and Community Lantern Project Coordinator (08).

This work has led to liaising with a wide cross section of the community including indigenous communities, youth groups, people with disabilities, environmental groups, sponsors, councillors, etc. Geographically, this work has led to travelling up and down the east coast of Australia, far north Queensland, western New South Wales, Tasmania, New Zealand and across Australia to Perth, where she now calls home.

Highlights have included travelling with Puppet Caravan , having the opportunity to work with outback communities (08), and working with Indigenous communities in Yalgoo, located between Geraldton and Mt Magnet. In 2005 at age 22, she completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts majoring in
Sculpture. Prior to university, her background was geographically located in Central Western New South Wales, where most of her formative years were spent. It is for this reason, combined with her experiences of working with remote communities, that she has a personal interest in taking the arts to rural and remote areas.

Bec is currently qualified in First Aid (06), Mental Health First Aid (08), will shortly complete Certificate IV in Small Business Management and also carries a current Working With Children Check.
