What got you into photography?
I was inspired by overseas travel. During 2004 – 2007 I backpacked around Europe and Canada. The experience was amazing and a turning point in my life. Documenting my travels with a digital SLR camera sparked the beginning of an interest in photography – I wanted to learn more.

So what happened next?….
I enrolled at Central TAFE to learn more about photography. The course is great, very full on and you learn about all different photography forms. It has definitely helped me understand the camera more.

Film vs. digital photography?
I prefer digital photography, it can give you unlimited options in designing photos and can be more cost effective and convenient then film photography. It really comes down to personal choice, you can’t really compare the two – they are both so different.

What do you love about photography?
I just enjoy photography. It is so rewarding putting together my own personal experience and education into my work. Working on the Amplifier launch was also great experience; liaising with clients finding out what they want and then trying to capture the essence of the event. The unique lighting conditions of the venue provided an opportunity for me to experiment with the camera to get the balance right. I also really enjoy working with people.

Where do you get inspiration from?
I am constantly looking at magazines to see what works and to get ideas. I am also inspired by my classmates, seeing how everyone is developing in their own styles and craft is a great motivator.

What would be your dream photography job?
My dream job would be a travel photographer. I am also interested in commercial photography, from fashion to product photography, everything that you see in magazines, products you buy. Ultimately I would like to have a good subject mix of people and object photography.

What advice do you have for aspiring photographers?
It is a hard balance to juggle money with passion. You have to love what you do. Always have your camera with you, take a wide range of pictures and as many as you can, get as much experience photographing – it will pay off.
