Lord of the Flies

  • Harbour Theatre 16 Lochee Street Mosman Park, WA, 6012 Australia

Harbour Theatre is bringing this classic story of conflict and survival to life for their July/August season. Directed by Sarah Christiner, Lord of the Flies is very much a coming of age story, with Nigel Williams’ stage adaptation highlighting the brutal reality of surviving alone in the elements.

It is the beginning of World War II, and children are being sent away from the cities of England for safety. One plane load of boys does not make it to their final destination. Their plane crashes into a deserted island; no adults survive. At first, the boys revel in their freedom, it is an adventure! But as time passes, tensions rise, fears come out of hiding. Soon, the boys’ fragile sense of order begins to collapse, island life taking a turn towards the primitive and sinister – it is not a game now, it is a fight for survival – the world of cricket, homework, and adventure stories is far away. A beast casts a shadow over this new world – a beast can change its form…

With a cast ranging from 11-20 years of age, scattered across the metropolitan, this ensemble will offer a dynamic, and moving presentation of this classic story about the corruption of innocence.
