Following the success Home Is Where My Heart Is 2008, the Youth Affairs Council of WA and Propel Youth Arts WA are extremely excited to announce the dates for this year’s photo exhibition.

The exhibition is a result of an innovative partnership between young homeless people and young emerging photographers who mentor the homeless young people through an eight week photography mentoring program aimed at developing their skills and sending a message to the community about homelessness through a photo.

‘Many people in the community believe that young people are homeless because they choose to be, the reality is that many young people are escaping abusive and unsafe environments. The exhibition is an opportunity for the wider community to understand the realities of youth homelessness through the eyes of those experiencing it’ Lisa Laschon, Executive Officer.

‘For many in our community our heart is in our homes, where our family gather, support and nurture us, it is a blight on our community that over 5,000 young West Australians are not afforded this opportunity to be looked after, because they have found themselves living on the streets, in hostels or couch surfing’

‘This exhibition gives homeless young people the chance to tell the wider community their story through an image’ Lisa Laschon, Executive Officer.

The exhibition is an important way for homeless young people to educate the community about the difficulties they face.
