YOUTH DECIDE @ TEDucation

TEDucation is teaming up with the Australian Youth Climate Coalition to host a Youth Decide ‘09 voting event.

  • WATCH STUFF (inspiring, interesting and incredible videos)
  • DISCUSS STUFF (conversations based around ideas brought up in the videos)
  • EAT STUFF (everyone brings some food to share)
  • LEARN STUFF (by meeting like-minded Perthians and connecting with amazing ideas)
  • AND VOTE!!! (as part of a nation-wide vote on Australia’s approach to mitigating climate change)

What is TEDucation?

TEDucation is an independently organised series of monthly events aiming to bring together enthusiastic Perth youth and young professionals who are interested in learning about and discussing the bigger issues. Each event is an evening of eye-opening talks, inspiration, stimulating discussion, socialising with like-minded people, communal eating, and learning about opportunities in Perth.

Our philosophy is: Inspiration —> Ideas —> Action.

The goal of these events is:

  • To inspire and influence people in their career decisions,
  • Provide a fantastic social networking opportunity, and
  • Promote volunteer opportunities in Perth

We will be screening a selection of recently released TED talks, facilitating open discussion, eating and chatting together. There will also be some short introductions by some local not-for-profit organisations, letting you know how you might get involved, and time to play in Scitech at the end.

Please see our TEDucation group page to learn more about these events:

What is YOUTH DECIDE?

Youth Decide ‘09 is a national youth vote on climate change, coordinated by the Australian Youth Climate Coalition. Imagine hundreds of thousands of Australian 15 to 29 year olds all attending voting events across the country to cast a vote, referendum-style, on the approach they want to see Australia take on mitigating climate change. It is our best chance to send the government a strong message that Australian youth want a say in their future – before it’s too late. This December, at the UN climate talks in Copenhagen, Australia has the opportunity to lead the way in a global action plan to tackle climate change. A united youth voice will help compel the Australian government to lead the way in securing a strong global agreement.

The focal Youth Decide voting event for WA will be held within this TEDucation night on Tuesday the 15th September.

Things to Bring:

  1. Food to share (preferably wholesome, reasonably healthy food). Not too much. Just enough for one person, then we’ll all share.
  2. A note pad and pen.
  3. Anyone else who you think would be interested in watching and discussing riveting talks from people sharing the world’s most incredible ideas.

We hope to see you all there!
