City of Perth officially launches Northbridge Piazza 28/10/09
On Thursday 29 October, four years after works began and almost six years after purchasing the site, the City of Perth will officially launch the Northbridge Piazza.
Visitors to Northbridge will be given a taste of the capabilities of the 8m LED screen with interactive games, a 3D concert and live crosses taking place throughout the night.
Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi believes that the Screen will play a strong role in contributing to a cultural change in Northbridge.
“Effective programming of the Screen with engaging content will help to draw Perth’s culturally savvy young people, families and visitors to Northbridge,” Ms Scaffidi said.
“We have been working with many local and leading international arts, technology and community groups to ensure that the content on the Screen reflects the dynamic culture of Northbridge,” she said.
“The Screen will be used regularly and will contribute to Northbridge’s position as Western Australia’s premier entertainment precinct,” she said.
Examples of innovative ways the Northbridge Super Screen will be used:
- Giving local film-makers new opportunities
City of Perth has commissioned WA Screen Academy at Edith Cowan University to produce high quality films suitable for a general audience that featured the City.
These will be shown on the Piazza Screen in March.
- Working with schools to complement their curriculum
City of Perth is working with local schools and tertiary institutions such as Central TAFE, Notre Dame and Christ Church Grammar to explore ways the screen can advance there programs through initiatives such as screening live lectures and enabling teleconferences.
- Look at Me TV –Your screen, Your content
A regular weekly timeslot that gives the opportunity for all Western Australians to have their locally produced content screened; including short films, artwork and documentaries.
In addition to working with local artists, the City of Perth has collaborated with several international urban screen and place making experts to help shape the content plan for the Screen.
Any film-makers and event organisers interested in becoming involved with the Piazza and the Screen are encouraged to “contact the City of Perth via the website”: http://www.perth.wa.gov.au
