2010 Creative Challenge - Residency Artists Call Out 2/11/09

by Li-anne Carroll

AWESOME Arts Australia is seeking expression of interests from innovative contemporary artists to work on the 2010 CREATIVE CHALLENGE. The theme is DWELLINGS and the concept is exploring different shelters, houses or residencies from around the world. This project aims to investigate the question, “what constitute a home?” and to delve into the interiors and exteriors of what makes a home unique.

We are seeking a variety of contemporary artists including but not limited to visual artists, graphic designers, filmmakers, animators, musicians and physical theatre/drama artists.

There are 10 full time regional residencies in Western Australia of 2 weeks duration between May and October 2010. Artists will collaborate with young people in each community to facilitate in the interpretation and expansion of the idea of a DWELLING. All art works will later form part of the 2010 AWESOME International Arts Festival for Bright Young Things in November 2010.

Through a series of workshops during the residency we request that artists stretch the boundaries of the imagination and provide positive creative adventures for the young people in each community. Therefore we seek artists ready and willing to head into unexpected territory.

Please send a one-page curriculum vitae and a short email describing how you would approach creating a contemporary ‘dwelling’ using your artistic practice and express your interest or experience working with regional community and young people. Email Li-anne Carroll, Community Development Manager, li-anne@awesomearts.com by 5pm, 13 November 2009. Further information about Creative Challenge can be found at the Awesome Arts website or 9485 0560.
