Propel Youth Arts WA announces category for WA Youth Awards.
Propel Youth Arts WA will play an integral part in the 2010 WA Youth Awards, hosting the new ‘Create’ category – to recognise the work of WA’s young artists and artsworkers.
The Create! Propel Youth Arts Award celebrates the achievements of young people’s contribution to the community across a range of art forms including drama, music, visual arts, writing, debating and arts management.
Winners in each category will receive a $2,000 cash prize and be presented with a trophy designed by a young artist, at the gala presentation.
Now in its 12th year, the WA Youth Awards rewards outstanding young Western Australians aged 12 – 25 years, youth groups and youth organisations for their achievements and contribution to the State.
Minister for Environment; Youth the Hon Donna Faragher recognises the importance of the WA Youth Awards in inspiring young people to make positive contributions to their community.
“I believe its vital that we encourage young people to reach their full potential and celebrate their achievements by publicly acknowledging them for the magnificent work that they do in our communities” she said.
Propel Youth Arts WA General Manager Sonja Basic says the new awards category provides a fantastic opportunity for Propel to acknowledge and profile young people in the arts.
“As the peak body for youth arts in WA, we see first-hand the valuable contributions creative young people are making to their communities. The Create! Propel Youth Arts award will showcase the achievements of these young artists to the wider public” she said.
Nominations for the WA Youth Awards are now open. Young people, youth groups and organisations are encouraged to nominate. Entries close at 5.00pm Friday 5 March 2010. Finalists will be announced during National Youth Week 10 – 18 April. Winners will be announced at the WA Youth Awards gala ceremony on Friday 16 July 2010.
