WAM Song of the Year 2009 NOW OPEN 24/07/09

Songwriters who want to take their career to the next level are urged to enter the WAM Song of the Year 2009.
The WAM Song Of The Year Grand Prize winner will walk away with $5,000 cash, a 3 day recording session *supplied by *Poons Head Recording Studio, a mastering session with James Hewgill Music, the pressing of 500 CDs by Diskbank, and the opportunity to sign a publishing deal with Shock Music Publishing – the most valuable prize ever offered in this competition which is now in its 20th year.
Unpublished songwriters can enter their compositions in 10 genre categories, 2 special categories and 2 school age categories, all with prizes of $500 plus one day of recording time in a professional recording studio. This year also introduces a new “Mentally Healthy” category, with songwriters are encouraged to share songs which deal with positive messages relating to mental health. Outstanding Regional and Indigenous songwriters will once again be honoured in bonus categories.
In addition, a Most Popular Song public vote will be held in conjunction with our Online Partner, Perthnow in September.
WAM are proud to announce that our major partner in delivering the WAM Song Of The Year is once again The Department of Health WA, Mental Health Division. WAM has worked with them in developing their Music Feedback campaign
The presentation ceremony will take place during Mental Health Week in October, to raise awareness of the benefits of creative activities such as songwriting to people’s mental health. The message for WAM Song Of The Year 2009 is “Creating a Mentally Healthy Community”.
