DCA Funding Recipients Announced 17/08/10

This week the Department for Culture and the Arts announced the recipients of the Looking Forward Fund and Contemporary music grants.

DCA has awarded $585,223 in funding to regional and remote communities for arts and cultural activities, from the Looking Forward Fund. The grants have been awarded to communities and organizations in the Kimberly, South-West and Great Southern regions.

The Looking Forward Fund, launched in 2009, encourages and stimulates arts and culture so that there are social and economic benefits for local communities and artists.

This years recipients reflect an array of art forms and cultural programs including; a contemporary dance development program in the South-West and Great Southern, a Kimberly production about the iconic hero Jandamarra, and an intergenerational project called ‘Give them Wunan: Listen properly.

Also announced this week, $166,000 has been awarded to a number of groups and musicians across WA. The grants are going towards a number of touring, production and mentoring projects which will see bands and musicians such as:

  • Sugar Army produce an album
  • Miles Away tour Europe
  • The Kill Devil Hills conduct a six-week European tour
  • Nathan Nisbet enter a six-week mentorship in Los Angeles
  • Johannes Luebbers, 2009 Youth Arts WA Citizen of the Year, record and launch his second full-length album.
