New Executive Director for Propel 20/08/10

Propel Youth Arts WA has announced the appointment of Monique Douglas as its new Executive Director.

Monique will take over the direction of Propel from the end of August, following the departure of outgoing Executive Director Sonja Basic.

Propel Board Chair Louise Coles announced the appointment after a nationwide search for artistically-minded and youth-focused leaders.

“We’re excited to welcome Monique to the leadership position of Propel Youth Arts WA,” said Louise. “Her understanding of the Western Australian arts and cultural sector will be invaluable to Propel as we continue to grow youth arts in WA.”

Monique has many years experience in the arts and youth sectors at management level, most recently as Marketing and Development Manager for Fremantle-based Deckchair Theatre Company. She has also worked with Youth Ballet WA, The Australian Dance Company and Quantum Leap.

In farewelling Sonja Basic as Executive Director, Louise Coles paid tribute to Sonja’s energy and commitment to leading the organisation through major change and growth to become a key body in the WA arts community.

“Sonja took the lead of Propel in 2008 when it was a much smaller operation and has built it into a dynamic organisation presenting over six programs annually, with a staff of seven and over 800 members,” said Louise.

“Her achievements include rebranding of the organisation, attracting new funding and leading the development of Propel’s key programs, including JUMP, Amplifier and ArtsCAMP. She also generated an advocacy push for the development of a youth arts hub in Perth. We are grateful for Sonja’s fine contribution to Propel and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”
