PIVOT: Passion to Practice
Immerse yourself in a day of inspiration and transformation at PIVOT: Passion to Practice, a one-day conference for young and emerging artists and arts workers, on Saturday 2 December 2023, at The Platform in East Perth, from 9am to 5pm.
Learn from seasoned multiform artists and arts industry professionals in a full-day program of thought-provoking panels, enlightening keynote speeches, interactive discussions, and invaluable networking opportunities. You'll not only learn how to translate your passion into practice but also construct the blueprint for establishing your own presence in the industry and setting the course for a sustainable creative career.
If you are aged 16 to 30 and are an emerging creative, artist, arts manager, or if you are an emerging practitioner within the first five years of your career, PIVOT: Passion to Practice is for you. This year’s program connects you with some of the best and brightest in WA’s arts landscape and lets you interact with speakers with a broad range of professional and lived experiences.
You will meet Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa (writer, performer, producer, and Executive Director at The Blue Room Theatre), Flewnt (award-winning Noongar and Wongi hip-hop artist and activist), Laura Boynes (independent dance artist, choreographer and disability arts worker), Nirrimi Firebrace (multifaceted artist and photographer who’s worked with brands such as Netflix and Sony), and Tyrown Waigana (Wandandi Noongar and Ait Koedal graphic designer, illustrator and sculptor). Don’t miss this opportunity to gain insights and advice from these amazing artists and many others too.

Asha Kiani is a performer, theatremaker, storyteller, musician and Teacher. Born and raised by her Indian father and Irish mother on Wardandi Nyungar country, Asha draws inspiration from the diverse threads that weave her identity. Asha has been involved in storytelling projects with The Centre for Stories, Perth Festival and, in 2019 helped devise and perform in Saga Sisterhood, a transformative performance project for South Asian women.
In January 2020, Asha wrote and performed her debut solo piece Drift which explored grief and loss and received the most audience votes for 'Best of' (The Blue Room Theatre, 600 Seconds, Perth Fringe World Festival). In June 2020, Asha co-founded the Second Generation Collective with local Video Artist Elham Eshraghian-Haakansson. Asha and Elham work with the local Iranian-Australian community, to curate stories of displacement, migration, home and identity via multi-modal art forms.
Currently, Asha works as a Teaching Artist for Barking Gecko Theatre and is aspiring to write and produce her debut EP. Asha pursues the ‘untold stories’ around her and seeks to connect with audiences via authenticity, empathy, vulnerability and humour.
