Art Yolk

Art Yolk provided young creative people with skills to help them work or train in the arts industry and get their own creative projects happening. It covered areas such as Project Development and Planning (including financial planning and budgeting), Legal issues, Sponsorship and Funding, Marketing and “Survival Skills”.

WHO: At-risk school leavers 15 – 25
WHEN: 2004 -2005
WHERE: Perth metropolitan area

Originally, Art Yolk ran as a highly successful pilot program funded by the WA Department of Education and Training from mid 2004 to mid 2005. The project was an initiative of Propel Youth Arts WA with key partners Community Arts Network WA (CAN WA) and the Arts Sport & Recreation Industry Training Council (ASRITC).

The target group for Art Yolk was young school leavers, aged 15 to 25 years, at risk of not succeeding in or entering employment or further training. This included young rural and remote learners, Indigenous people and other youth-at-risk.

The Art Yolk Pilot aimed to:

  • Produce an arts industry training program custom designed by and for its participants.
  • Develop employment and ‘survival’ skills for young unemployed, regional and Indigenous artists and arts workers through participation in appropriate skills development workshops.
  • Equip participants to access further training and be better prepared for employment
