The Shine Project involved working with four focus communities to run mapping and visioning activities to figure out where young Indigenous in WA people are at, what their arts and creative dreams are and how *Propel Youth Arts WA*can support them to get there.
- WHO: Indigenous young people 12 – 25
- WHEN: 2004
- WHERE: Perth, Kalgoorlie and Derby
A Key Young Leader (KYL) was chosen by each focus community to assist Propel Youth Arts WA to run the activities and develop their skills through the project. The Key Young Leaders were supported and mentored by a key organisation within their communities and the then Propel Youth Arts WA Indigenous Special Field Officer.
80 young people in total participated in the workshops, with 200 indirectly involved. The workshops and survey process mapped the current situation faced by young Indigenous artists exploring their strengths, challenges and visions for the future. It gave a valuable insight into the culture, trends and issues of young Indigenous people both in the arts and as a whole and formed the basis of a proposal to the Foundation for Young Australians for a Stage Two Partnership Grant.
