Poetic Lineages

Our stories are always built upon the stories which came before us. In Perth, the poetry scene is a scribbled family tree of lineage and line breaks.

Throughout March, a group of local emerging poets were given the opportunity to be mentored by established poetic leaders of Perth. These mentors include Julie Watts (winner of the 2018 Dorothy Hewitt Award), Shey Marque (Queensland Poetry Festival’s 2018 Emerging Older Poet), Scott-Patrick Mitchell (WA Poets Inc.) and Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa (Australia’s Got Talent, Fully Sikh).

This Poetic Lineages development program culminates with a public showcase, in which the mentored poets will share their similes and manifest their metaphors.
