1. What art forms do you partake in?

I work in theatre and performance as a theatre-maker, writer, director, producer and dramaturg.

2. What made you fall in love with art?

Going to the theatre as a kid and being totally in awe of the people performing and the stories they were telling.

Then later on down the track learning about how art and performance can challenge the status quo, provoke conversations and inspire people to see each other and the world in new ways was really eye-opening for me. Learning about the legacy and lineage of amazing artists who have pushed the boundaries of the forms I work in, taking theatre out of the black box = ❤

3. What issue in the arts do you think needs more attention?

Hmm...lots! I think some questions I am thinking about right now are:

  • How can art respond to this overwhelming and all encompassing climate crisis/climate change we are living through? And how can we hold each other through that?

  • How can art resist commodification and capitalism in its making and presentation?

  • How can we encourage artists to be bold and brave and experimental with our ideas and practices?

  • How do we look after ourselves and each other in an industry where burn out and mental illness is so rife?

  • And...how can the arts be accessible to all and create spaces for marginalised voices to be heard without tokenism or having to apologise for what you want to say/do?

    (Oops, that's a lot!)

4. What are your plans over the next year?

Well...the next few weeks are pretty busy! My performance The Lion Never Sleeps is on next week (24th - 25th & 26th July) as part of the Blue Room's Winter Nights' program: https://blueroom.org.au/events/the-lion-never-sleeps/ and a play that I am co-writing with the amazing Mararo Wangai will have a reading on the 1 August also as part of Winter Nights: https://blueroom.org.au/events/playing-up/

Then after that I start a residency at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts to work on a new show called 'The Trouble-Makers' !

I also want to go snorkelling more!
