Youth Week WA KickstART Festival 2018
Now in its eighth consecutive year, the Youth Week WA KickstART Festival offers young people aged 12 - 26 an extensive range of free workshops, forums, performances, programs, special events and, new initiatives for 2018. KickstART is driven by young people with big ideas, and will once again roll into the cultural heart of Perth from Friday 13 until Sunday 22 April 2018.
The KickstART Festival is presented as part of Youth Week WA (formerly National Youth Week WA), which is an annual statewide celebration of the positive contributions of young people to Western Australia. More than 100 events are set to take place throughout the State, many of which have received a Youth Week WA grant provided by the State Government of Western Australia through the Department of Communities. The KickstART Festival is presented by Propel Youth Arts WA as part of Youth Week WA, and is supported by the State Government of Western Australia, Lotterywest and the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority.

Illuminate – Djoondal Djoomba
Each year, Propel forms a Youth Planning Committee to assist in the planning of the KickstART Festival and to decide upon a theme for Youth Week WA across the State. The theme for 2018 is Illuminate - Djoondal Djoomba.
This theme has a twofold meaning. Illuminate relates to space; time; the future of young people, bringing light to young people, and shining bright, and positive mental health. Djoondal Djoomba was inspired by the 'Carers of Everything' Nyoongar Dreamtime story of country, which is about the star woman and spirits coming from darkness to light.
This story was shared with Propel and the Youth Week WA Planning Committee by Dr Noel Nannup, a well-respected story teller, guide, instructor and mentor. Dr Nannup is Cultural Ambassador and Elder-in-Residence for Edith Cowan University where he works on community and cultural projects. As Heritage Consultant with Indigenous Tours WA, Noel established the Swan River Tour in 2009, Rottnest Island Tour in 2008 and Kings Park Tour in 2004. All of which are still currently being offered. We are also delighted to have Dr Nannup on board as one of our three Youth Week WA Ambassadors for 2018.
