Interactive installation exploring birdsong and music. A variety of instruments will be available to try, including: a 16-tone keyboard, 3D printed flutes, PVCello, along with intuitive and immersive ways of seeing and engaging with sound. Attendees are encouraged to play with the instruments to explore recorded birdsong, and see if we can create new music.

Facial Reconstruction combines principles of anatomy, osteology, anthropology and art to recreate a face from skeletal remains (the skull). It is often of assistance in police investigations to aid in identification of a victim. Learn about the important facial muscles and tissues, and create representations of these using clay.

In his 1911 book the Mechanism of Life, Stephane Leduc tried to prove through a series of experiments that life is merely a chemical process. In this workshop we will try to replicate one of the experiments – creating basic protocells using salt solutions and ink. In the second part of the workshop, participants employ the same real-world laboratory procedure used in a variety of biotechnology research applications to extract DNA from many different organisms.

Dr Clint Bracknell will discuss environmental crisis as a fundamental failure of culture and explain the need for stronger relationships between people and nature. Jean-Michel Maujean will discuss preliminary findings on his studies into birdsong and music. This includes 3D spectrograms, a visual method of looking at sound for analysis, composition and performance.
