Last year the City of Nedlands held the inaugural Emerge Youth Art Awards exhibition and awards ceremony. The event was a success with 75 artworks exhibited and over 300 people viewing the works over the afternoon.
Entries are now open for Emerge 2014. An exhibition of this year’s entries will be held on Saturday 23 August at John Leckie Pavilion, Nedlands. There will be an awards ceremony for all categories, with a $2,000 cash prize pool.
Young people aged 12 -25 are invited to enter with two dimensional artworks such as print, photography, painting or drawing. The brief for 2014 is ‘Vision’.
“Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others” – Jonathan Swift.
An artist’s vision is an intangible idea or concept, which is made real through their creative work. This involves more than sharing an image with your audience, but sharing an emotion, a belief, feeling or way of seeing. Vision enables an artist to express in images what can’t be expressed in words.
Entries for the Emerge Youth Art Awards close on Wednesday 13 August.
