Calling all young creatives aged 12-26: sign up for the free Paint My Precinct Mural Painting Workshop Series and learn the tricks of the trade from a professional mural artist.
The Paint My Precinct (PMP) project is an opportunity for young people aged 12-26, regardless of experience, to join and contribute to something meaningful. It's about expressing yourself, collaborating with your community, and making a real difference.
Participants will be guided through a series of three workshops covering:
Securing mural jobs and building your art career
Finding your personal style and voice
Mastering can control and shading like a pro
Understanding colour psychology and storytelling through art
Networking with industry and engaging with communities.
Get your hands dirty at the Base@Belmont Youth Centre with experienced local artist Jinan Dodd as your mentor. Learn the tricks of the trade, practice on wooden panels, and then help transform a community space with a new mural on Love Street in Cloverdale during the Youth Week WA KickstART Festival (5-12 April 2024). This mural artwork will be unveiled at the Love Street Locals event on Saturday 4 May 2024, celebrating the vibrant heart of the community.

About the Artist
Jinan Dodd is a multi-disciplinary Māori artist from Whakatane, New Zealand, currently based in Perth, Australia. They specialise in painting large-scale murals that tell stories reflecting community and cultural values. Jinan's work has been featured in public spaces throughout New Zealand.
After studying Fine Art at the University of Auckland, Jinan's passion for mural art was cemented in 2020 after being commissioned to paint a mural on their local tribe's marae (meeting house), which was met with critical acclaim. Jinan's art style is illustrative and colourful, often featuring energy weaving as a common theme. Their use of vibrant colours and intricate patterns creates a sense of movement and vitality in their work.
